Biotech Grand Prix 2024: Grand Prize Won by SPHinX

The Biotech Grand Prix 2024 was held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Center of Garage to select the winning teams for the Grand Prize and the Corporate Award.

The Tech Planter, launched in 2014, is promoting the concept of "Deep Issue & Deep Tech Explorer," which aims to solve unsolved issues (deep issues) with collective science and technology (deep tech) from 2020. On the day of the event, the 12 finalists of the Biotech Grand Prix, selected from among the 336 teams that applied for the Tech Planter 2024 competition, passionately presented their ideas for developing fundamental technologies that could lead to solutions to various social issues through the use of technology.

And the winner of the prestigious Grand Prize wasSPHinX(Theme Name:Development of a simple diagnostic kit for infectious diseases that can be used in developing countriesSPHinX utilizes "smart polymers," polymers designed to change their properties in response to changes in temperature, to develop a technology that enables highly accurate antigen testing for hepatitis C, which was previously impossible. SPHinX aims to realize "a world where we can save lives that can be saved" by enabling inexpensive and accurate diagnosis through this technology.

Biotech is a technological platform for solving problems based on the understanding of life phenomena, and SPHinX was selected for the Grand Prize because of its potential to be applied to many infectious diseases other than hepatitis C, to contribute to the health of many people, and to serve as a platform for solving the global problem of infectious diseases. The SPHinX technology was selected as the Grand Prize winner.

SPHinXalong with the Tech Planter Grand Prize winning teams in the other six areas,The Japan Society for Hyperdifferentiation 2025 Tokyo-Kanto Conference(March 7 and 8, 2025) to participate in a special pitch session. Furthermore, the two teams that excel in this session will participate in the TECH PLANTER Asia Final 2025. Through these initiatives, we aim to unite Japanese and Southeast Asian ventures, large and medium-sized companies to develop solutions to deep issues in Southeast Asia.
