In this panel discussion,Hiroshima Tech PlanterBased on the results of the "Deep Tech Venture" (hereinafter referred to as "Venture"), we will discuss the potential for diverse value creation brought about by collaboration between business corporations and Deep Tech Ventures (hereinafter referred to as "Ventures"). Particular attention will be paid to the role of regional companies, financial institutions, and VCs in the venture's challenge to create new industries from the region to solve problems. One possible role is to nurture entrepreneurship together with business companies rooted in the region through accompanying and strategically investing in ventures, so that they can grow as future management human resources.

As a specific case study, we will focus on our accompanying efforts to the finalist of the 3rd Hiroshima Tech Plan Grand Prix, Phytolipid Technologies Inc. Representatives from Hiroshima Venture Capital Corporation, Focus Incubate Corporation, and Liverness Capital Co,Examples of Accompanying Support and Investment(*1) The discussion will be based on

In addition, the following important topics will be explored in depth

 

  1. How to promote innovative R&D and business development through collaboration with venture companies
  2. Creation of a collaboration model that maximizes the strengths of the operating company and the venture company
  3. Evolution and Strategic Use of Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) from the Perspective of Human Resource Development
  4. Significance and Practical Approach to Supporting R&D Ventures in the Jermination Period

 

In addition to the post-corona economic recovery, the economic and social structure is undergoing a transformation due to population decline, GX and DX, etc. Corporate management is required to change beyond conventional wisdom. The government's policy for small and midsize companies is also shifting from "defense to offense," "maintenance to reform," and "stillness to movement. For ventures, collaboration with small and midsize companies is also important for speedy business expansion. In this session, we will present a path for companies to achieve rapid growth in this era of change. Mr. Ken Nishioka, President & CEO, Hiroshima Venture Capital Co.

Currently engaged in local startup and university-originated venture investment at Hiroshima Venture Capital, he has been consistently involved in supporting local startups and venture companies since 2000, and during his tenure at the Hiroshima Bank headquarters, he has promoted local industry-academia-government collaboration through alliances with universities in Hiroshima Prefecture. He has actively supported the commercialization of university seeds, including the establishment of an investment fund exclusively for university-launched ventures.

 

 

Mr. Hiroyuki Ota, CEO, Phytolipid Technologies, Inc.

D. in Food Engineering, Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University. Doctor of Agriculture.After working as a researcher at Mitsui Plant Bio Research Institute and a cooperative researcher at National Institute for Basic Biology, he started his career at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1991, founded Phytolipid Technologies, Inc. in 2021, and became a professor emeritus at Tokyo Institute of Technology in April 2023. In 2018, he was awarded the Terry Galliard Medal, the most prestigious award given to researchers in lipid science for their outstanding international contributions, the second Japanese in 24 years.

 

Mr. Yuji Matsuzaka, President, Focus Incubate Co.

He joined Focus Systems, Inc. in 1995 and is currently the General Manager of IT Innovation Division 2. After working as a system development SE and IT infrastructure SE, he became a manager and then a sales manager, where he promotes the IT service business by collaborating with major customers and developing business plans and proposals. Since July 1, 2023, he has also served as the representative director of Focus Incubate Inc.

He holds a Master's degree in Technology Management. Graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology, School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, and founded LIVERNESS Corporation in June 2002, where he was appointed as Director and CFO. In January 2020, he established RIVANESS Capital Inc. as a subsidiary of RIVANESS through a corporate split-off and became its representative director. Ltd. as a subsidiary of RIVANESS and assumed the position of Representative Director. He also serves as an auditor of other RIVANES-related subsidiaries.
