ABOUT
- Purpose
- At universities, research institutes, and corporate laboratories, the "seeds" of science and technology are being born, and it takes a lot of time and effort before they sprout into practical applications. The "TECH PLANTER" organized by Leave a Nest with its partner companies is an ecosystem that aims to discover these seeds and serve as a planter to turn them into businesses. Asia Final event will be showcasing Grand Winners and Leave a Nest Awards Winners from 6 ASEAN countries. This event will further provide the opportunities for the team to showcase their project to wider range of ecosystem players.
- Target

- Early stage startups and pre-startup researchers' team or individual in Real Tech Field
- Mature startups or SMEs seeking collaborators are also welcome, even if they are close to mass production or PMF establishment.
- Visionaries that aim to change the world and/or their own country to a better place based on the science and tech based seeds
- Those who are interested in the Japanese market or collaboration with Japanese corporations.
- Categories of the TECH
- Manufacturing, robotics, IoT, AI, agri-tech, bio-tech, healthcare, life-tech, food-tech, care-tech, marine-tech, ecotech, and etc.

A panel of judges consisting of Leave a Nest and its partners will evaluate each of the following items.

Announcement of Finalists
Selected Finalists will be announced in the beginning of August.
For those selected as finalists, interviews will be held to brush up their presentations for the final DEMO DAY.
In addition, it is possible to set up interviews with partner companies for the purpose of business consultation and to develop collaboration projects.

Chief judge Leave a Nest Co. Ltd.Global Bridge Research Center, DirectorDr. Ryuta Takeda
- He received Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, and trained as a pure scientist in a biotech field. After joining Leave a Nest, he initiated “TECH PLANTER” in Japan, and managed to spread it to 10 countries to explore Deep Tech to match Deep Issues. As well as managing international teams and businesses in Leave a Nest, he also developed a lot of international PoCs and collaborative researches between MNC and startup and different startups, so called international co-creation activities.

- Mitsui Chemicals Inc. is one of the diversified companies in Japan and providing wide variety of chemicals and polymers globally. It will help build a better future society across five business domains, Mobility, Health Care, Food & Packaging, Next Generation Businesses and Basic Materials. Mr Uehara is in charge of new business development from Asia Pacific. He is looking for new business opportunities making best use of open innovation in connection with Mitsui Chemicals' proprietary technologies.

- As President of Real Tech Holdings, Mr. Fujii drives the company’s mission to solve societal and environmental challenges through innovative deep-tech technologies. The company has four venture capital funds under management, with one specifically focusing on South East Asia. Prior to joining Real Tech Holdings, Mr. Fujii worked for EIT Climate-KIC, EU’s largest organization fostering climate innovation. He was involved in setting up several business units, led a company-wide change management program focusing on people management and managed the company’s effort to assess its climate impact. Mr. Fujii holds a Master's degree in International Studies from the University of Tokyo.

- Kenji Minefuji has led various open innovation activities with his business strategy and venture finance expertise. Since 2016, he has provided hands-on supports for many startups in over 10 countries as a mentor. During his communication with startups, he developed novel collaboration schemes/concepts between startups and multinational corporations. He started his career as a research scientist of optical communication technology at the Information Technology R&D Center. In his mid-career, he planned R&D strategy of the R&D center, and was in charge of resource allocation and project management, too. His deep understanding and experience of both cutting edge science & technology and business strategy made him launch unique open innovation activities with startups at the Center for Future Innovation.

- Since his joining Nihon Unisys (NH) in 2001, he has engaged in international business, marketing and sales. From 2008, he joined NUL System Services Corporation, a group company of Nihon Unisys in US, to support startups’s entry into the Japanese market. After his returning to NH, he is in charge of business in South East Asia, especially, as a part of global business team.

- Mr. Washiya graduated with a M.S. of Architecture from Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering, Waseda University. He served both domestic and multinational companies in corporate wide transformation project at Tokyo and Stockholm office of McKinsey & Company. Mr. Washiya joined ACSL in July 2016.

- Joined MOL in 1992 and gained various experience in maritime business through his career including the overseas companies in London, Rotterdam, Chicago and Hong Kong of MOL group. His current responsibilities cover “New business creation unit” and “Global recruiting & Consulting business unit” too since 2018. Emission reduction project effectively started from 2018 by his initiative and Windmill power generation & affiliated business unit now became one of the main business sector in the company. He studied in San Francisco State University (1989-90) and graduated Sophia University (1992) majored in Sociology (B.A.).

Nippon Shokubai Co., Ltd.ManagerMr. Yusuke Miyazaki
- Since 1941, Nippon Shokubai has grown up its business with unique catalyst technology and has supplied, for example, ethylene oxide, acrylic acid, automobile catalysts, process catalysts and so on. Among all, its global market share of superabsorbent polymers is the largest in the world now. Its R&D teams are especially focusing on ICT, energy & resources, and life sciences as their new core business. In Singapore, a collaborative research project with Nanyang Technological University started in 2019 to develop new technologies and products. Mr. Miyazaki is a manager of the project, who had been in charge of the bioprocess research and development for a decade when he was in Japan. In addition to his research activity in NTU, he is also looking for new opportunities to collaborate with other companies in new ways based on his biological background.
